How To Apply Password To Your Pen Drive

Since Windows Vista, Microsoft offers locker and encrypting feature called Bit Locker. You can basically think it as a free alternative to “PC Security 7″ or “Folder Lock 7.0.6″. I hate to say alternative because it is even better than most paid security softwares.

How secure it is ?

It not only locks your pen drive it encrypts it to protect your data from hackers. Encryption is a process where your data is scrambled and made unreadable by using cipher, so if some one uses you pen drive in other PC he wont able to read your data.

Now you may think what if some one tries to access your data by changing the BIOS settings or startup files. No worries, Bit locker is smart enough to detect that. To put it simple it can detect any potential thread to your drive.

May be if you are as lazy as me, then typing password every time is a tough job for you. Windows bit locker provides a options to unlock automatically. Let me explain, you may find it troublesome to type password every time you insert your pen drive, then you can select the settings to automatically unlock on your PC. You can do the same settings for your office computer .

Now what are you waiting for; its free, provides better security, in built (you don’t need to download anything). If you don’t know how to use it then don’t worry we will tell you how to do that in step by step.

Applying password

1. Go to start menu and open control panel.

2. In control panel choose system and security and then Bit locker Drive Encryption. You will see a screen like below

image

3. Then Click on “Turn On Bit Locker” Option on the right side the drive you want to protect with password. I forgot to say The “off” below the drive name shows the security status. As you can see my Drives are not password protected. I am too lazy to type the password.

4. Here we will choose the pen drive. After clicking on the turn on you will see something like below.

image

5. After 20 sec or so it will ask you how you wish to lock your pen drive using password or smart card. Choose strong password and Click next. (BTW Smart Card is a a small plastic card containing a computer chip. You can think it as debit or credit card.)

6. Thereafter BitLocker will prompt you to store a recovery key that helps unlock your drive in case you forget your password. Just click on “Save the recovery key to a file”. You will see a window like below. Click on save.

image

7. Then Bit locker will ask for conformation. Click “START ENCRYPTING” option.

image

8. Then you will see a window telling how much much data is encrypted. The amount of time that encrypting process will take to complete the process will depend on how much data is on your drive.

image

9. Now you have a not only password protected but also encrypted pen drive. Whenever you plug in this pen drive to your computer or some other computer you will ask you a password. I don’t need to say the drive can be used only and only if correct password is entered.

image

10. An amazing thing is you notice see its icon has also a golden lock and it does not even show your deprive name before you enter password. But as soon as you unlock it by entering the password it will change its appearance.

imageimage

How to remove Password protection or automatically unlock on selected computer

1. Unlock you pen drive so it will look like this image

2. Now right click on the icon and choose manage bit locker. You will see some thing like below.

image

3. Chose the option you want and; Voila, you are DONE !!!

Enter Text Message In Your Logon Screen

Want to show off your friends by amazing start up messages on your Logon or start up screen. Here we will guide you step by step.

clip_image002[4]

Using third party software will make it easy. But sometimes it really messes up with windows registry. So when you try to change something that has involvement with system32 or registry always prefer manual instead of software. Again using third party software you will miss the fun and knowledge you will gain through this process.

Setting up a welcome screen message in mobile is too easy. But doing something with your stupid computer needs a bit of work with Registry. But with this guide it will be just peace of cake.

1. Open RUN

2. Type regedit and click OK. You will see something like below

clip_image002

3.Navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Policies > System (VISTA AND WIN 7)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion > Winlogon (WINDOWS XP)

For novice, when I say navigate, I mean double click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Then scroll down, look for SOFTWARE & double click on it and so on.

After double clicking on system you will a screen like below

clip_image004

* In the Right Pane you will see legalnoticecaption and legalnoticetext. Basically you can understand them like the value in legalnoticecaption is the message title and legalnoticetext is the message body. See first picture for better understanding.

4. Open legalnoticecaption by double clicking on it and enter the value you want to see, like I typed WorthyTricks.org.

clip_image006

5. Open legalnoticetext and enter your value, like I entered

Welcome to next generation tips and tricks website. Tips and tricks…clip_image008

How To Disable USB Ports / USB Drives In Your Computer

USB Drives is the most easiest and common way to steal data in the corporate industry. If you are a software programmer you surely don’t want some unfaithful to access your computer and stole your precious software.

Our Bollywood has a whole movie “Pyaar Impossible”, which is based on a data theft by a USB drive. Why I am telling you all this unnecessary stuff..???? Because if you are reading this then all you wanted to know how to disable USB ports. So here is the Trick…

You can disable USB Ports or Drives by two ways:

  • Registry Tweaks (Long cut Method).
  • Software (Shortcut Method).

Via Registry Tweaks

1. Open RUN from you START MENU.

2. Type “regedit” and click OK.

clip_image002I must warn you Windows registry is not a place to show you creativity or try out new things unless:

  • You have a windows instillation DVD ready.
  • You have a good knowledge of windows registry

3. You will see something like below.

clip_image002[31]

4. Now double click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

clip_image002[33]

5. Also double click on SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > services

clip_image002[35]

6. Now scroll down and look for USBSTOR. Just click on it once. You will see some thing like below.

clip_image002[37]

7. Now double click on the  “Start” in the right pane, that will open the window like below.

clip_image002[39]

8. In the Value Data box replace 3 with 4 and click OK. Voila, you are done.. You just disabled you USB Port / USB Drives in your computer.

TO RE-ENABLE USBPORT JUST CHANGE AGAIN THE VALUE TO 3.

Via Software

There are many software available over the net which will do the entire registry change for you but the bad thing is you will miss the excitement you will get when you do it all by yourself.

Just Google “USB Disabler Free”. All the software’s listed in first page are good like USB Disabler 2.0 etc. You can try anyone of those to disable your USB Port just by a click.

I forgot to mention that doing this will also disable your USB based keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner etc… So play safe.. Smile

Samsung Galaxy SIII New Features

Capping months of rumors and speculation, Samsung’s latest creativity as well as innovation raises the curtains from the Samsung Galaxy SIII, which is currently one of most fastest smartphone, in Samsung unpacked event on May 3rd in London. Samsung’s brand new flagship device with 1.4GHz Quad-Core Exynos processor will hit the European market on May 25th. But for Indian customers it will come in June with price range between Rs. 35,000 and Rs. 38,000.

The front face of Galaxy SIII looks just awesome with sharp images, Super Amoled HD screen with resolution of 720*1280 has clarity that can be assume to be eye-searingly brilliant. The Galaxy SIII used the similar screen observed earlier in Galaxy Note but for a somewhat smaller sized panel. 8 MP primary camera with LED Flash can take every single shot amazingly fast and with finest quality. The 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera can be utilized for face recognition applications and of course for video calling. Both cameras have 990ms start-up time and 3.3fps burst mode. Given that the Galaxy S2 had a reputation for having one of the best smartphone cameras around, it looks like Samsung is interested in ensuring that the Galaxy S3 will uphold that reputation. There is also Smart Stay Eye Tracking in Samsung Galaxy S3, which we will discuss later.

Samsung Galaxy SIII

Under back cover Samsung provides powerful 2,100mAh battery. When you will remove the battery you will find a microSD slot that has up to 64GB of storage capacity. It comes with Bluetooth 4.0 support, GPS with GLONASS reception, high-throughput 40MHz 802.11n Wi-Fi, NFC . That’s the reason for Samsung put together both Android Beam and Wi-Fi Direct known as S Beam with too many other cool features. The global version will support 21Mbps HSPA+, the company says that 4G versions will be coming to North America and Japan in summer and US will see it in June.

Features of Samsung Galaxy SIII

  • 4.8″ HD Super AMOLED Display.
  • 1.4GHz Quad-Core Exynos processor.
  • 1GB RAM.
  • 8 Megapixel rear camera with LED flash.
  • 1.9 Megapixel front camera.
  • NFC, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.
  • Wireless charging capability.
  • 2,100mAh battery.
  • Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
  • 8.6mm thin.
  • 133 grams.

For detailed configuration and features of Samsung Galaxy SIII, please head over to this post.

Some Cool Features Of Samsung Galaxy SIII

  1. Smart Stay Eye Tracking – If you are wondering what the hell is eye tracking…? Then I should tell you that this is one of the coolest feature of S3. The front camera of Galaxy S3 can track your eye movements and allows the screen to remain bright display until you are looking at it. This will come in handy for those times when you are reading an e-book and the screen turns dark on you halfway.
  2. Direct Call – This will allow you to make a call to the person you are texting, simply by lifting the phone to your ear.
  3. S Beam – This will allow you to share files with each other simply by tapping their phones against one another. Samsung claims that 1GB files can be shared within 3 minutes while a 10MB song can be shared in just two seconds. The velocity of S Beam reached its top at 300 Mbps, making it the fastest of the market is so far.
  4. S Voice – This is somewhat similar to Siri (an application of iPhone) – the ability to control the device using your voice. Besides S Voice can search for information on the web and other basic communications commands, there are new interactive features added.
  5. Pop-Up Play – Pop-Up Play shows the real power of quad-core processor on a phone. If you’re watching a video and want to do something else, you can turn the video into a little thumbnail that will float – still playing! – over the Web browser. This is a step towards truly being able to run two apps at once, something for which the big 4.8-inch screen is practically begging.
  6. Burst Shot And Best Photo Selection – The Galaxy SIII 8.0 megapixel camera has a smart camera technology to take pictures of moving images without delay. If you take a photo that will be directly taken without the lens must first focus. The Burst Shot feature makes your camera 20 consecutive shots, of which 8 are then selected the best quality.
