So you brought a android device for yourself?? New to android?? Don’t know the A of Android?? Well I’m here for your help. Here I’ve brought some tricks for you to fully customize your Android device by some easy tricks or tweaks. Let me first tell you (If you don’t know) that unlike other mobile operating systems the Android platform is highly customizable and you can do such things which you’ve never thought of.
As a formality let me give a brief introduction about Android and its competitors like iOs, Blackberry & Windows Phone OS. You can skip this part if you want the Donut straight out of the box.
iOs : While the iPhone (All iPhones) gets a +1 in the terms of the number of apps present in it, in terms of the customization it does not gives that much space. Apple has designed this operating system to be closed source so the developers won’t get their hands on the system files of iOs due to which no one except Apple has the rights to dig on the operating system. Consequently it lags behind the android. Though you can change the wallpapers & some ringtones along with alarm tones but Heyy! That’s not what we are talking about.
Blackberry : RIM’s Blackberry operating system is one of the most basic operating system available in the market. It not very much designed for the customization. Here also you can only change the wallpapers along with the ringtones and the app drawer. But are there apps present for blackberry? Till it’s version 6 i.e BB Os v6.x the was not even optimized for touch. So we clearly see that Blackberry cant take the lead.
Windows Phone 7(& 7.5): Here comes a beautiful interface which is very much itself beautiful. But we are talking about customization abilities. Microsoft strictly made the windows phone locked for the OEMs for the customization of its UI so no one except Microsoft (Just like apple) can tweak the Windows Phone Os. Here also you can only change some of the ringtones, wallpapers and sound schemes.
Android (All versions): Finally here comes the father of all other mobile operating systems in terms of flexibility & customization. If you have an android device then you may have felt this yourself. Being a open source operating system it can be customized legally and everything can be changed in it. You can find many custom ROMs for almost every device. You can set live wallpapers, change the font size, change the icon size, put widgets and blah! blah! blah!
Customizing Your Android Device with Simple Tricks
Put a live wallpaper

One of the most cool & unique feature present in the android operating system is the Live Wallpaper for your home screen. It looks very beautiful & and you can flaunt your android device in front of your friends and amaze them. The good thing is that the live wallpapers work in all android phones even low end ones. You can search the term “live wallpapers” in the android market and enjoy thousands of them in your device.
Unlock Hidden settings
Just like Windows operating system on PC android has numerous enhancements and features which can only be unlocked via a 3rd party app. For android there is an app called Spare parts which is a very handy tool. It allows you to control the speed of animations, the number of animations, adjusting the size of onscreen fonts. You can also see the detailed stats of the apps on your device which suck up all the juice in it.
Create A Custom Ringtone

Tired of the boring tones provided by your device manufacturer, you can create custom ringtone according to your choice in your device. Many apps provide the functionality like this to an android phone. My favorite ones are -Ringtone Maker, MP3 Ringtone Maker & Ringdroid.
Use enhanced UI

Here enhanced UI means that you can used the highly customizable launchers for your android device which beautify the device with increased home screens, more widgets, smooth animations, etc. Some launcher you can use are – GO launcher EX, ADW Launcher, Ks Launcher for 2.2/2.3. There are many more in the Google play store.
Use Widgets

In the android operating system you can easily put many widgets in your home screens. These look good and provide increased functionality to the device. Widget packs are available in the Google play store which carries many widgets in one installation saving your space. Some of my favorites are – Beautiful Widgets, Tasker, AIX Weather Widget.
Good Keyboards

The android operating system provides us the functionality to use 3rd party keyboards which are more on features and utilities. They are also easy to write and are good in looks considering the stock keyboards provided by the companies’ like- The Samsung Keyboard- I think it is the worst to write on. You can use many keyboard like – Go Keyboard, Slide It Keyboard, Thumb Keyboard (Phone/Tablet).
Use a File Manager

Just like in your PC the android operating system allows you to manage your files efficiently in your phone. It just requires you to install a file manager in your android device. The stock file manager is very basic and will not do that much for you. To unlock the full functions a 3rd party file manager is required. Some of my suggestions are – ASTRO File Manager, ES File Explorer.
Install an Antivirus
With some great features, as protection plays a very vital role. All operating systems are vulnerable to the security threats and viruses. Luckily developers for android have taken this in mind and have provided a number of anti viruses for the Os. Some of them are – avast! Mobile Security, Lookout Security & Antivirus, Norton Antivirus & Security.
Well that’s it; I hope you by now have thought something of your device. Did I miss something? Correct me in the comments.
